FRONT OF MIND DISPLAY AND COMMUNICATION

As human beings, we can be very forgetful.  We forget appointments, birthdays, events all the time.  We remember many of these things by writing them down on a calendar in the kitchen which we see every day or on our phone/laptop calendar which conveniently has alarms to remind us.  We’ve deemed these dates as important so we create systems that remind us.  In other words, we create systems that keep important things, “Front of Mind.”

Questions

If we do this in our personal lives, why don’t we do this with more intention in our business?

Aren’t there key values, philosophies, strategies and mindsets which should remind ourselves and our teams of EVERYDAY?

If we don’t have these reminder systems in place, do we run the risk of NOT achieving our goals?

Things to Consider

In order keep important things front of mind, consider the following:

·       Start each meeting by sharing core values and team objectives.

·       Start presentations with core values and objectives.

·       Put the 3-5 key strategies on walls, in cubes, in offices so everyone at every level knows what’s important.

·       Remind everyone that they can ask this question at any time, “How does this help us achieve objectives and goals?”

·       If you use behavioral assessments (e.g. DISC), post charts of team member styles to remind people we all work and approach things differently.

·       Add your own…….

The key is we have to constantly remind ourselves what is important or we will forget…….as individuals, teams and organizations.  When we forget, we can then rationalize anything into being important and that’s when we fail.  We need to determine the “critical few” things that matter and then focus on them relentlessly on a day to day basis.
